Im needing to replace 1 of my roof top ac units ... currently my system is 2 - 13,500 btu 115/20 amp units ... Each on its own 20 amp breaker ..... For a few dollars more I can get the 15,000 btu unit .... The specs are
  • Capacity range of this series (BTUs) 15,000
  • Power (V/Hz) 115 / 60 / 1 Ph When I talked to the distrubiter, they said it needs 30 amps on start up ???? and then drops to
  • Compressor-rated load amps: 13.2 ...... Will this work with the 20 amp circuit ????

What is the exact model # of the unit?

I dunno about RVs but PTAC units that are 15k BTU require a 30A circuit for the electric heat, not the compressor draw.

Keep in mind new units will be more efficient than older, and 15k units are only a 10% increase in cooling. Your avg hotel room uses one 9k or 12k BTU cooling unit.

well one way to find out is to go to your local RV dealer and look at an RV that has a 15k BTU unit and then see what breaker is used. Since you have 2 13.5k units, I assume your unit is a 50A supplied one?

You can also ask this question on an RV forum as that may be more appropriate.
