What is the minimum safe distance location of an outdoor generator from a pad mount building power transformer? Does it make a difference if the generator is supplying power for life safety loads?

I don't think there is any set minimum distance. It would be a design decision. In general, the farther away the better. Also, the larger the transformer, the larger the distance I would consider safe.

volt101, Take a look at table 110.34(A) for your clear working space if the pad mount is going to be facing the generator.
