When you guys tie in something live namely a service drop on a service change. What safety equipment do you employ? Gloves? Safety glasses?

Re: Safety equp.

I got out of the trade around 1979. At that time, I did it with no PPE except for a fiberglass ladder, a rubber boot insulated wooden handled press, and "Isulinks" (trade name). I squeezed the Insulinks on the drop conductors and then shoved the service entrance conductors into them and pressed them on. I sure hope no one does it that way anymore. I picked up the load with the main overcurrent device. :D

Yeah I just get on a glass ladder and put on the split bolts very carefully, I have been thinking I dont want to do that anymore because I figure sooner or later I am gonna get hurt, shocked or have an explosion in my face.

you might want ear protection and a face shield, along with the gloves and safety glasses. ALso pull the meter open disconnect, and be careful. I always felt nervous about that and maybe overy safety conscience.

Re: Safety equp.

Face shield sounds like a good idea. Molten wire in the face, not so good
