It was done by a guy named Julian Beever (That's him, kneeling. Google him!). What makes it truly remarkable is that it's not paint, it's chalk! One good rainstorm, and it's gone! He does this great stuff, someone photographs it with him in the picture, and that's it.

CBS News had a short video a few weeks back about painting the likeness of children on bicycles in the street using this same technique.

The idea was to fool drivers into thinking there actually was a kid on a bike in the street, and get them to slow down. I never did catch what city it was in.

I wonder if someone where to see that painting of a kid on the street, swerve and hit someone on the sidewalk, what a legal disaster that would be

I'm sure the citation would be for Failure to Maintain Control.:cool:
I guess my point would be, what made the person swerve, the painting (since it is designed to represent an actual person on a bike).

I think that the real problem with the child in the street painting is after you slow down for the paintings a few times and later a real child is in the street you may not react quickly enough.
