I decide to make a poll about safety training and PPE, I plan on making it anonymous and you can check as many that apply.

Please answer honestly, I am hoping no one tries to make light of a serious subject.

Have you attended any OSHA training of any type?
I have an OSHA 30 card.

Have you attended any electrical safety training?
I wanted to answer NO - as I have yet to attend an Arc Flash class, but I do have a Red Cross First Aid/CPR card , Confined Attendant Qualified Card, etc

Have you attended any PPE training?
I am constantly taking classes for this, that or the other thing....see above.

Have you learned what PPE stands for?
Of course.

Have you heard of NFPA 70E

I have read some of it - but definitely not "all" of it.

Of course, but as I become better educated the instances are being reduced.

Sort of, but the other poll dosent make a lot of sense to me, just the opposite of this one.

As long as they check 1 box it will make the data useful. Maybe add a none of the above box to the poll so if none of the choices apply they can at least check that one and the %'s will be accurate.

Yes out of the group of tradesmen that hang out at an electrical forum on a Sunday morning it is pretty much what I would expect as well.

That is the point, trying to get a percentage number for each of the questions. At some point we could combine the data from each poll to lean a little more.

But if you add the none of the above box the other poll and the combining of the data is not necessary. Sheez, i suppose the avereage sparkie hasnt taken a statistics class either. (I am kidding, dont start another poll)

And I have answered yes to one of the most disturbing questions:

Have you worked hot without protection?

Yes I have, more times than I should have and have been very lucky that nothing serious had happened.

From the results as of my posting (48 responses so far) it was sobering to see how many of us have worked hot without protection. (42).

I don't know if that is a testament to how careful everyone has been so far, or an indication of the fact that we have a long way to go in the safety department.

Please understand that I'm not being preachy or trying to act better than anyone else, just sharing an observation.

Bob, there should be a time limit on the "Have you worked hot without PPE" question, like in the last 5 years or in the last year.

I worked hot without PPE everday on my submarine, but I answered "no" to your poll question because back then there were no laws or available PPE to have as an option and that is the culture we need to change to save lives.
