Looking to install a generator. Customer service is grouped together with other services at one end of the townhouse complex. We would need to intercept the feeder to house between service and home to install the ATS. The house panel sits inside the garage inner wall. Would ATS with breaker need to be located outside or inside the house?

If the ATS is supplied by a feeder it could be located at any point since the service disconnects are still grouped (assuming that's your concern)

The service feeds the house panel from. Remote service disconnect. I wouldn't need to put a service rates ats outside home for emergency disconnect?

Is your AHJ making you add an emergency disconnect when you install a generator?

I know that doesn’t kick in in my area unless you’re doing a panel upgrade.

No. The meter loop and service is remotely located because it's a townhouse. The concern was if we needed to add a disconnect outside home as emergency but I assume the disconnect outside meets both requirements
