Satellite Installation

My next-door neighbor just had a new dish installed so he can get hi-def signals on his new hi-def TV. The installer decided the best place to mount the dish was on the far side of the detached garage, right next to the alley. My neighbor does his TV watching in his house, so naturally there needs to be a connection from the garage to the house: The cables are lying in the back yard between the buildings. Satellite guy suggested to my neighbor that he bury the cables.

Imagine being able to run power to a detached garage and leaving a loose bunch of live THWN lying in the grass, telling the HO that he ought to bury the cables.

Perhaps we could propose it for the next code cycle? :D

Did they PAY for the job???
You get what you pay for:

"Free Installation"

I had some dish bozo tell me that it costs extra to use mollys...and he didn't have them on the truck..so he could come back tom'row...but it was a Saturday, so that would be extra too.

I laughed at the guy while my front door swung shut :)

I had the local cable company run a new drop into my house a while back. They laid it on the ground and said a crew would be back to bury it soon. Six months later and it's still on the ground, so I Ty-Wrapped it to the fence so I souldn't slice it up with the lawnmower.

When I called to complain the response was "We'll get there when we get there." In other words - "Who you gonna call for cable TV - Us ? Or us ?"

The "basic" free installation does not include much. When the satellite network installation people came to my hose they told me that they would mount the satellite on the roof - screwed through the shingles. Anything else was extra. $75 for entering the crawl space. $75 for entering the attic. $75 for fishing the wire. I am disabled, but I know how work is to be done. I gave them $75 for entering the crawlspace, but my wife did the attic work and fished the wire under my direction. Don't count on getting any kind of decent installation for "free".
When the satellite TV people came, it was an entirely different story. You want it mounted on the chimney rather than bolted through the roof? No problem, no extra charge. You need the wires pulled through the attic? No problem, no extra charge. Just tell us how you want it installed and we will do it.
