The reason people report the master exam is easier than the journeyman is because they were generally more prepared and more experienced by the time they took the master exam. It certainly is not designed to be easier.

The journeyman exam was the first exam I had taken out of apprenticeship. I was quite nervous and had many more psychological blocks than I did when I took the Master a year later. When I took the exams, they were provided by Block and Associates. It then became Experior which is now Thomson Delmar.

Just prepare in the same way you did for the journeyman, but expect more questions on non-dwelling installations and 3 phase systems.

That would be better, non-dwelling installations and 3 phase systems!
Since i'm industrial!! And only deal with that. The hardest part of the Journeymans was the questions on calculating a dwelling.
Never done it (before) , don't plan to (because I'm not interested in that part)!

Thanks!

Does Florida use same tests as SC?

In Michigan (back in the day when I took J test) it was easy; but when I took the Master's test 2 years later, it was a SOB. It is now my understanding that the J test is quite difficult and the Master's test is easier.
I keep my license current. I certainly don't want to find out that it is now too difficult for me to pass.

No. Florida develops and administers their own test through the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Bureau of Education and Testing.

And, FYI, the application and approval procedure is harder than the test. ;)

Not the journeyman or local (ER) master exam. This is still administered through the private provider. State (EC) certified contractors test through the state.

Took the SC masters yesterday

Took the SC masters yesterday

Well, I took the South Carolina masters yesterday. It was a lot more on three phase and motors. That was good for me! It was a 4 hour test, I was finished in 2 1/2 hours. So I went back thru all the questions to double check. I'm pretty confidant that I passed! Two or three questions kinda worry me because of the wording, but I don't remember what they were, went by the beer store on the way home, so my memory is real bad this morning.......

I'm scheduled to take the SC exam administered by PSI Tuesday. I was to have taken it last Tuesday, but it got rescheduled. The study guide they gave me isn't that bad. 90% of it is code questions. I've also been told they tally the score right there and you know if you passed or failed before you leave the room. I'll post more Tuesday evening.

I passed!! It was 80 questions in 4 hours and I finished in about 2 1/2 hours too. It was a little tougher than I had been lead to believe by the instructor of the prep class, but it wasn't anything like it could have been, I guess. I felt I nailed about 50 questions, had about 20 that I answered, but not 100% sure of the answer and the rest were pretty much complete guesses. Thanks for the help I received here on this forum.

later,
Bobby
