Hello,
I'm adding two safety contactors with a circuit breaker (combination meets a SCCR of 65kA) to an existing motor circuit so that I may interrupt the 480VAC as required for a Catagory 4 Safety Upgrade. The shop engineer has informed me that the, "3000A Bus 3A Line is rated 100KA Short Circuit but your Equipment Main protection should sustain 50KA minimum short circuit." Now I'm confused, do I need to replace my new components to meet the 100KA or is my current design sufficient for the SCCR requirement?

I read this as the available fault current is 50kA, so your SCCR of 65kA is sufficient. However, everything else is rated at 100kA.

Unless there are specifications that say otherwise, I see no need to change your equipment.
