Is schedual 20 (real thin) PVC only listed for concrete encasement? For the life of me I can not recall the trade name for it. Any feedback is appreciated?

I believe there is a type A which is approved for use encased in concrete (any location) and a type EB which is approved for concete encased in outdoor trenches. Both of these are thinner than (Sch 40) but 'Im not sure what schedule they might be considered.

Think of it as a concrete form that remains in place. Sort of make-yer-own concrete duct.

It would have to be encased in concrete. Granulated fill would not suffice

One of the local utilitys in my area used to allow it for under ground services, don't know if they still do, but it just needed to be in sand covering. Very cheap very thin.

As far as I know you can not use schedule 20 PVC for any NEC application.

Utilities can and do use it.

Actually, you can. If the installed conductors (cable, rather) is rated for direct burial, it doesn't matter that it happens to be pulled in P&C duct.

If it is indeed listed as Type A rigid nonmetallic underground conduit the it can be installed in accordance with Articles 352 and 353. This information comes from the UL whitebook.

Also if you look in Chapter 9 Table 4 you will see a specific table for Type A rigid PVC conduit.

The local POCO uses "DB 120" for the under ground, And don't look at it cross eyed or it will break. :D

I know Sch. 40 & 80 are mentioned in the "Book" but I don't ever recall seeing Sch.20 mentioned. Based on that I would say no you can't use it.
