No I pulled that from the 2005 Code. I did talk to the inspector and his theory is probably the best I've heard yet. He asked, "What does PVC do in a heat box?" "Becomes pliable," I answered.
He responded, "And you don't think that PVC won't do that in an attic during the peak of summer when it 105 in the shade and under black shingles?"

352.12(D) Uses Not Permitted. Where subject to ambient temperatures in excess of 122 degrees.

I've been in some attics in MA that were above 122 degrees.

This is a good question. 352.12(D)[2002] unless listed otherwise.

I actually checked some of my sch80 that I have, out of curiosity. It is listed for 90C/194F conductors. It doesn't have a temperature rating on the conduit itself. hrmmm
