I recently did a 200 amp temp service consisting of 6' of sch.80 pvc out of the transformer into a meter base , and back out of a 200 amp fused disc. Out of the disc. I ran 380' of sch 80 pvc above ground on a grassy area and onto the edge of a fenced in parking area keeping the pvc as tight and close to the fence line as possible . I then staked the pvc down with 2' sticks of emt on both sides of every coupling. I must add the pvc that is running along side the fence is in between job trailers and fence . please tell me where I went wrong.

Re: schedule 80 pvc

I guess I should tell everybody the inspector in my area failed me without even looking at the product when I told him what I did He immediately replied that If I used sch 80 above ground hell fail me. article 230.50 says differently.

Re: schedule 80 pvc

300.5 only applies to direct burry not above ground installations. sch 80 pvc is approved to be ran above ground, It even states that on the pipe. again I refer you to article 230.50

Re: schedule 80 pvc

I think your specifically refering to 230.50 A 3.

The way I'm reading this it doesn't apply because your conductors are after the disconnect.
I don't think your protecting service cables.

Re: schedule 80 pvc

Keep in mind the UL Listing for SCH 80 states it is considered suitable for protecing conductors were exposed to physical damage, ie PVC condcuit on a pole has to be sch 80.
From UL Listing DZYR
Schedule 80 conduit has a reduced cross-sectional area available for wiring
space and is suitable for use wherever Schedule 40 conduit may be
used. The marking ??Schedule 80 PVC?? identifies conduit suitable for use
where exposed to physical damage and for installation on poles in accordance
with the NEC.
RMC however is considered suitable for protection from severe physical damage. It can be run on top of the ground, if burined then its 6"

Re: schedule 80 pvc

We just started a custom home for this plastic surgeon and the t pole was 400 ft from the house. All they wanted was a t pole close. But it crossed an easement,a horse crossing lol. 2 2x4`s and a 2x10 on top was good enough ;)
