I am starting a residential division of our company and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some great scheduling software. Something that would allow me quick access from my laptop in the field as well as keeping jobs easily prioritized. I would also want to be able to add notes for additions and extras. Thanks, Justin

Re: Scheduling software??

Curious to see what others use as well. Our boss uses a day planner, paper and pencil. :D :D

Re: Scheduling software??

I use a spiral notebook, but I'm sure there's some trick software out there. :D I find that I need so many notes on each job, that the note taking takes precedence over the scheduling. This is why the notebook works so well.

Re: Scheduling software??

I recommend purchasing a Palm Pilot and using their software on your office machine. Keeping notes on the hand held throughout the day and synchronizing it with your computer at the end of the day (or each time you get back in the shop) is the way to go. The biggest problem I have had in the past was keeping information in multiple places. Now that's no longer the case. I control everything at my fingertips. I have heard that HP has a handheld device that works very well with Microsoft Office, but I can't comment on that.

You could try Microsoft Project $509 or Premavera Sure Track $419.00

I have used both. The larger GC's use Premavera P3 scheduling program. $$$$$$$$ Sure Track is a smaller version of this program. Not all of the bells and whistles. You can open the P3 files and they can open yours.

Premavera is a construction standard.

How many jobs are running at the same time? How many crews?

My shop is primarily a service shop. I use a wall calendar that I can schedule out 3 weeks. I use a dry erase marker to schedule jobs and crews. We do about 150 individual jobs a month. I have not found any software that will work for me. You might want to contact an HVAC shop. I've seen some of the software they use. It works for them.

I use software from a company called Celayix. It allows multiple jobs with notes for each and info on each and the ability to print schedules to hand to the employees and much much more. I really like it and their tech support was very helpful. Look at them on the web @ Celayix.com
