I am contemplating learning to make better drawings for work. My original graphics book is before personal computers, so has no modern references.

Any basic, graphics software program recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

I just went through the same thing. I decided to purchase Turbocad deluxe. It is a cad program. The drawing programs were to complicated for me to figure out, I tried Xara, and Autocad Lite is too expensive, $1100. You can download a free trail of each at their respective web sites. If you download the trail of Turbocad they will call you near the end of the trial period and see if you want to buy it. For $180 they will give you a couple of training books, a disk of 30 million symbols, not sure what is on it yet, and a tutorial software along with the program. Hope this helps and no I do not work for Turbocad or own shares in the company.

Dear Roger,
Would you be making drawings by hand (Drafting Table) or by CAD? There are
There are lots of free "Electrical CAD symbols on line) I could send you a CD that has basic symbols for the USA and the UK. Just send me a private message and include your e-mail. Let me know your requirements and I will see what I can do. It will not cost you a penny.

I use QuickCAD, a 2D program which was made by Autodesk, the makers of Autocad. I say "was", because it isn't offered anymore. The latest version I have v8.0, was made in 2001.

I still use it, though, because it is plenty of program for the wiring diagrams, BOMs, equipment dimensional drawings, and other minor drawings I create.

For only $60, this software was of course compatable with AutoCAD and other common drawings formats.
