sds bit in regular drill

I do it all of the time when I just need to drill one or two holes and don't want to drag out another tool. My 18v Dewalt hammerdrill does a good enough job for a few holes.
 
I keep a ?" SDS bit in my cordless drill case for concrete anchors.

The only problem is getting it 'centered' in the chuck. Sometimes it takes several tries to keep the bit from wobbling since the chuck has 3 jaws trying to grab 4 'sides' of the bit.

what do you think about a 1" x 16" sds bit in a regular hammer drill?

i know i could try it and see but the bit is $40 so i want to return it if its not going to work
 
I'd be buying an SDS hammer drill at this point.

I hope you aren't wanting to using a 1" masonry bit on a cordless.

I would return the 1" SDS bit. I believe you will be less than satisfied with the way the bit performs in a regular hammer drill. The largestbit I use in my SDS drill is a 7/8" bit. Anything larger than that and I'm using the Macho drill.

I use a 1" by 10"long SDS bit in my DeWalt hammer drill,
and my electric hammer drill.

I don't think I'd recommend buying one special.
This was a left-over that I have made good use of.
