What length of SE do you consider acceptable from panel to wall? I always figured four or five feet would be OK. I know the code says as soon as possible.

I already had the service inspection, the POCO is coming thursday to connect. During rough-in today the inspector says he does not want more then 18 inches inside the wall. After 20 minutes of conversation he signed off on the rough-in. He said he is going to talk to the inspector who did the service inspection.

What do you all think?

One question,, did you move it 4' over because something was interfering with the 36" rule, or just because that is where it ended up?

What 36" rule?

My service comes in a full 8' w/o any OCPD.....but it's also in 2" RMC from meter to panel...as per the "agreement" the AHJ and I made.

Well it ended up where it is because its just below the panel and some distance from the ground. From the outside it looks a little goofy where it is but if it were another 2 or 3 feet up it would be an outright eyesore.

This is an interesting thread. I always thought, through trade "folklore", that there was to be no more than 6 feet of SE cable inside the house after it entered, before the OCPD. I think the code should be clear and specific and give an actual number to go by on this.

I'm not sure that I understand what you have installed. The SE cable can be any length if it's on the outside. How much do you actually have on the inside?

I am sorry about the 36" ref,, next time I will quote only the code ref, so I won't need Iwire to watch my back anymore

I saw it as an opportuity to whip out the rehab code on you ;)

Of course, MD may have differnt rules than NJ...but the rehab code is a nice tool to have at your disposal.

Have you seen it?

Not until now,,, looks like I have 165 pages to read, thanks Celtic,,, I guess I better buy that other bottle of Jack Daniells...

I have about 3 1/2 feet inside the wall from the bottom of the panel to the hole in the wall going outside.
