HAVE A CUSTOMER THAT WANTS TO REPLACE A 60A SE PANEL IN A RESIDENCE WITH A 100A - PANEL IS LOCATED OVER A BUILT IN BOOKSHELF AND RECESSED BEHIND 2 SLIDING SHORT DOORS - THE PART WHERE DOORS ARE WILL BE OPENED UP BUT THE CUSTOMER DOESN'T WANT TO REMOVE BOOKCASE - KNOW THE CODE HAS CLEARANCE AROUND PANEL REQUIRED BUT DOES ANYTHING APPLY TO EXISTING STRUCTURE OR WOULD THE EXISTING SITUATION BE GRANDFATHERED

Re: SE PANEL & BOOKSHELF

I don't believe in grandfathering provisions even if they do exist. If you touch it, you are now responsible for any and all work performed and the condition the electrical equipment is left in. I would express the safety concerns and the reasoning behind the working space and locations clearances. Don't compromise your integrity and professionalism under the pressure of a home owner. Just my opinion.
