Sealing conduits

Good morning,
I have a question concerning sealing of conduits that enter electrical equipment (ie; starters,panelboards,switchgear etc.) that originate from cable trays. I have been requiring the contractor to seal these conduits with duct seal to prevent rodents from entering into these areas. I know that at one time the Code clearly stated this, however I am only locating 300.7 which deals with raceways exposed with different temperatures. What other areas might I research out side of 90.4?

I really don?t think that rodents are the business of the NEC.

Would you have an idea of when, and in what article?

What other areas might I research outside of 90.4?

90.4 does not give you the authority to enforce rules that do not exist. It only gives you the authority to interpret the rules that do exist.

If you are a private inspector and your clients want it done then you may enforce, if a government employed building code (electrical) inspector then maybe should not. It sounds like a good idea, but sounds like there are really no unused openings to worry about!?

Maybe before requiring the contrators to do something , you should look up

the Article in the NEC first, so you know you will be right ?

One thing that you will find here is that many of us have little tolerance for unwritten mandates being enforced when the best code reference someone can find is 90.4.

I agree with Charlie, 90.4 isn't a means by which someone can enforce something that they feel might be a good idea.
