Greetings!
Situation: 200 amp service feeding two meter sockets (self contained integrally fed by buss bars) I installed a 100 amp fused disconnect under one base as the load center is more than six feet from entrance point. I ran 100amp al sec cable alongside of bare 6 awg egc to load center approx 40 feet away through void between structure ceiling and false drop ceiling.
Problem: The utility will not re-energize citing that sec cable from a service entrance to a distribution panel is a code violation. I have done this many times in the past being inspected and approved by various local officials in various locations. Did I just get lucky oh lets say 120 times over the last ten years or is he on to something I am not aware of?
Just complaining: I took this job on after a fire in the structure. This building dates back to the turn of the century and is your typical red brick construction. A commercial service was feeding a business on the ground floor while a residential service was feeding the apartments on the top floor. The arrangement was such that both load centers were in the rear apartment which was gutted by a fire that started in the boiler room of the first floor. How this was ever energized or approved I will never know. The load from the meter bases to the load center mains were fed from the rear of the base enclosures (A violation). The 200 amp sec cable feeding the meter bases ran to the point of attachment without even so much as a weatherhead or securing means to the building. Yes it hung off of the drip loop at the poa! some 12 feet overhead. I corrected these problems. The front apartment recieved no fire damage what so ever. I installed a load center in this apartment to make it livable once again. Which I speculate should have been done this way from the time of remodeling. Complaining done.
Your help on this would be greatly appreciated!!
