Secondary Market Equipment

Supply Chains are currently a disaster. I see a ton of electrical equipment available through "secondary markets". These are not being sold by authorized distributors, so there is no "proof of provenance". Authorized distribution provides assurance the product is not counterfeit and facilitates a recall channel when a manufacturer has a product recall. I find it extremely dangerous to consider buying from these channels, dangerous to our craftsman who install and maintain the products, and also an extreme liability to any business. I'm not even sure how insurance companies would cover a claim when someone bought through these channels.

I tell my folks just don't do it. But these businesses thrive as they have product (real, counterfeit, or from a distressed sale after a natural disaster-flood/storm/etc) that legitimate channels might not have in stock. I'm curious how others see this dilemma?

(btw - I'm an EC, not a supplier)
