Good afternoon,
I need some clarification or interpretation with section 200.7.
I did an inspection for a new AC condenser and the builder used NM cable (romex) from the breaker to the disconnect box and used 10/2 and now are trying to re identify the white wire at the breaker and at the disconnect. I interpreted that section to apply to flexible cord type wires not NM romex.
What are your thoughts.

Unless you are in Canada the white wire in nm cables has been allowed to be reidentified for as long as I can remember---back in the 70's. I am sure it goes back further than that.

There are many people miss interpreting this section wrong for AC condenser. Maybe you guys can make a video on it.
It's pretty straight forward.

200.7(C)

(1) If part of a cable assembly that has the insulation permanently
reidentified to indicate its use as an ungrounded
conductor by marking tape, painting, or other
effective means at its termination and at each location
where the conductor is visible and accessible. Identification
shall encircle the insulation and shall be a color
other than white, gray, or green. If used for single-pole,
3-way or 4-way switch loops, the reidentified conductor
with white or gray insulation or three continuous
white stripes shall be used only for the supply to the
switch, but not as a return conductor from the switch to
the outlet.

The definition of NM
Nonmetallic-Sheathed Cable. A factory assembly of two
or more insulated conductors enclosed within an overall
nonmetallic jacket.
