I'm putting in a secure line and the contract states the following
A. Data cables must be installed in a carrier
b. The carrier should be constructed of electrical metallic tubing, ferrous conduit or pipe, or rigid-sheet steel ducting, utilizing elbows, couplings, nipples, and connectors of the same material;

My question is PVC consider ferrous conduit?

Not to me, it isn't.
Ferrous contains iron, PVC is plastic.

You should really ask the client/engineer if they will allow PVC...and check 352.12 for the intended location.

Re: secure systems

Sounds like they want it only installed in a ferrous material. Even threaded aluminum conduit would not satisfy the requirements presented in your list. Knowing that my guess is that PVC would be NG.

Re: secure systems

Sounds to me like they expect the conduit (carrier) to act as a magnetic shield or a block against radio frequency interference. PVC will definitely not do that job.

Re: secure systems

I would not even ask the engineer / designer about using PVC.

IMO that list is very clear, there must be a reason they want ferrous metal.
