Securing Cable

My guess would be to keep it from being damaged either when the wall is finish is applied or if it's exposed and not dangling. Certainly it's allowed to be fished and where it's not secured.

Along with that I think it is also intended to help keep cables being pulled out of boxes and fittings, hence the requirement to secure a cable close to the box it terminates in.

Around here cables are often run on the surface exposed so without supports it would be a real mess. ;)

I am a little curious as to why you are asking about this. :)

Because I'm the "Random Question" World Champion :D ....and I was a little bored.

Honestly I was just curious if there was one reason in particular that we are required to staple. Protecting the cable during wall finish and to keep the cable from being pulled from the box were the main reasons I could think of. Although some people, myself included, do not snug the staple to the cable. Not sure if a loose staple really keeps a cable from being pulled from a box.
