Curious about how others read 334.30 and specifically 334.30(A) as it relates to securing NM cable in place when running cable perpendicular to and on top of the bottom chord of roof trusses or floor trusses. This is new work and currently exposed, but will be covered with sheetrock.

The way i read 334.30(A), a staple (or other means of securing the cable) is only required at the end of the run of cable and within 12" of its termination. There is no need to secure the NM to each truss along the way.

Clearly, running parallel to the truss is a different matter.

Don't have my NEC handy but isn't the requirement for the cable to be supported and secured at lengths not exceeding 4.5'? If so how is it secured if it's only laying on the truss?

334.30 Securing and Supporting.
Nonmetallic-sheathed cable shall be supported and secured by staples, cable ties listed and identified for securement and support, or straps, hangers, or similar fittings designed and installed so as not to damage the cable, at intervals not exceeding 1.4 m (41⁄2 ft) and within 300 mm (12 in.) of every cable entry into enclosures such as outlet boxes, junction boxes, cabinets, or fittings.

The inspectors in my area only require securing in the attic if the area is not used for storage and is not to be floored. Do require securing within 6' of a scuttle hole.
