Does anyone have any input whether it is right or wrong according to NEC to plug a security system transformer into a GFI protected receptacle?

The NEC does allow a fire alarm system to use a non GFCI protected outlet in the basement of a dwelling unit. As some alarm panels are listed combo burg/fire you may be able to use this exception, added in the 02 cycle.

Re: Security sytem on GFI outlet ?

Since a standard secutity alarm system is not considered a "Life Safety" system, there wouldn't be any NFPA codes, that I am aware of, that would address this system.

The likelyhood of the GFCI recptacle tripping with this transformer is very remote.
If the receptacle is on a GFCI circuit breaker with other loads, then you take your chances that something else doesn't trip the breaker.

Read the instructions!

Some do say not to use GFCI protected recepticales.

Exception #3 of article 210.8(A)(5) says "shall not be required", but not "shall not be supplied by..."

But how does 760.21 come into play, or does it not???

This of course only has to do with the possibility of the security system also incorporating a certain type of fire alarm system...
