Has anyone had experience with tritium self luminous exit signs. List disadvantages. They seem too good to be true.

$175.00 vs. about $50.00 for the standard.

The $125.00 difference gets eaten up real quick.

Do you need to rent a lift? How close is your circuit?

One drawback is they're not very attactive, one bonus is you won't get any service calls for awhile...

"BradyGlo? " is a better choice, not any better looking though. :(

A minimum of 1 hour of 54 Lux of unfiltered fluorescent light exposure is required on the sign face at all times during building occupancy. After 60 minutes of 54 Lux exposure, the sign is 100% charged and will continue to glow for 50 to 60 continuous hours, when charged with Florescent, Metal Halide or Mercury Vapor Lamps. Consistent glow life and unlimited rechargability throughout service life.

Re: Self-luminous exit signs

i have used them on a three story glass walled bank lobby. i bought two and the cost around $200. each! in the daytime they look like an unlit sign. at night they have enough glow to read them. i had to have the building owner sign a paper stating they would be exchanged every ten years. don't ask me if they did because i don't handle their account anymore!

Tritium signs were the first generation in luminous signs. 3M has come out with a new material that glows without any radio active components like tritium. The navy has been using it on their battle ships. A sign made with this stuff costs a fraction of what tritium signs cost. But it's very new to the public and only one or two companies are making signs with it right now. Here's the number for one of them 713-996-6650.

cheror, click on the link I provided for the Brady product and you will see this is a "Nonradioactive" sign, hence my comment about it being a "better choice"

Roger, yes, Brady Glo does look to be similar to the 3M product. The better choice would depend on the end user's requirements. Brady Glo looks like a good choice for HIGHLY industrial environments where all you need is a sign, since it resists so many chemicals, and only comes in a sign format.
The 3M product (a low cost pressure sensitive adhesive vinyl) looks better for non-highly industrial environments where luminance is needed in more non-traditional places like door frames, stairs, low level, and railings, in addition to exit signs. And it only takes 3-5 minutes to charge, where the Brady Glo takes an hour.
Either way, it's obvious there are better choices than tritium out there.
