I agree with the others.

Working for a company and being compensated for being licensed or even qualifying a company is different than just selling a license to unlicensed people.

In our company if you put your license in as a qualifier the company will pay for all CEU's and annual renewal fees.

It doesn't raise any flags to me. Small ECs are facing tough times ahead. I can easily understand an EC in his 50s with a small shop looking to hire on with a larger company and shift his focus to more of an employee role. There have been several days over the last 25 years when if offered, I would have traded all the employee/management/customer/gov't regulations/tax planning/insurance/telemarketing/bookkeeping headaches for the opportunity to just do the job I love and get a paycheck on Friday.

Ok, I will give the guy the 'benefit' of a doubt, its just that whenever I hear about an ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS LICENSE used to get a job when they can 'contract' for their own, seems to raise red flags for me. ;)

some people would rather work for someone else. I don't see that as necessarily a negative.

I think the part that might have stuck out is the fact that it's a masters license. But that could also be more of a selling point along the lines of experience and training, not for use in lieu of a business owner's own masters license.

It is not selling your license. It is working for the man. I owned my own business for 10 years and got tired of it. Went to work for an A/C company and quilified the business as an electric contractor. Officer of corperation, stock holder, Company insurance up the wazzu. Did that for 4 years untill company sold. Went into maintenance work for another 4 years. Became an inspector for 2. Economy down so it is time to shift again. Now doing road work and quilifing company as an electric contractor to enable us to do highway lighting and signals in house. You one man, one license thinking guys need to get your heads out of the sand and look at the big picture. Think outside the box. There is nothing illegal anywhere about working for someone else and using your license to quilify a company. You just do it buy the rules.

Plenty of companies that simply have the money and buisness since it takes. They lack a license so hire a guy with one. Legal in Florida, maybe not smart. All depends on there active role in watching the work. Sorry to say but masters in most big companies seldom see the work. Do i like it ? NO but it wont change. Florida is a joke when it comes to licensing and part of reason wages are low. A master here could have 500 employies with not one having a journeyman license. And he need never see any job or meet an employee. Pull permit and its over.
