2 seperate detached buildings fed from a service disconnect located else where ( 1 triplex feeding building (A), that is tapped and then the triplex continues to feed building (B). I want to know if the triplex is code compliant or if I need to run Quad. This is 2005 code, I believe it is code compliant, if each building is grounded and has a main disconnect. Please ref. NEC art.

AS long as you dont violate 250.32 (2) your good to go.

that would only work if I changed the triplex from the disconnect to building (A). The job only details changing/ re-routing the triplex between (A) and where it is directed to (B). Would you still run a 4 wire even if your not changing the tri that feeds? (seems pointless unless you change everything to quad which is what I believe you are stating)

Yes, Dennis and I both agree that its 4 wires or nothing, you can still run 3 wires legally, its just not going to happen after 08, and its generally never a good idea.

alright, would you then tell the cust. that you would have to replace all of the existing tri w/ quad (I agree, but its not required YET). I guess what I'm getting at is, how would you approach the cust. about something that is outside of the scope of work needed to be preformed that should be done, and what is required to be done.

to me, it would be like adding a recept in a HO's family room and then telling them that I need to put in an ARC fault brkr b/c that is what is going to be required, (but not yet).

know what I mean?

the triplex comes right in the middle of the pic to the left of the LB, that is where it is tapped and then goes back out to another pole. I need to run conduit on the outside of the building to another point on the building. How would you mount the serv. head to connect to the existing tri? The conduit needs to go up and the across the top of the window, I can't think of a good way to connect to the tri. (I don't plan on mounting the serv. head upside down w/ the conduit going up)

Sidd if this is an existing install I would either just do it or I would tell the HO that the code is changing and the install that is here will not be code compliant soon. It may be to your benefit to upgrade the cable to the separate structure
