If you install a generator on a feeder circuit within a building that feeds a 100 amp panel, is this considered a separately derived system? Can the neutrals be bonded in the transfer switch ?

We want to back up general shop lighting and a few key items.

You would either setup the generator as a SDS or a non-SDS. Typically this is a design issue so the choice is yours. With the SDS the neutral is switched by the transfer equipment and the generator neutral is bonded and is connected to the GES similar to a service. For a 100 amp panel IMO a non-SDS is all that you need where the generator neutral is not bonded, the neutral is not switched and the existing GES is still used when you're on generator power.

What type of transfer equipment are you planning on using?

Look at the T/S. Being a 100 amp Generac I'd say there is a 99.9% chance the neutral is not switched therefore, as infinity shows, the generator would not be considered a SDS.
