I am building a small barn and I am planning on running a 4 wire 120/240 volt branch circuit with 2 AWG Type USE wire. I have a trench app. 30 inches deep (exceeding the 24 inch direct burial requirement) and I want to put my branch circuit wire, a 3/4 inch water line and a direct burial type of phone line all inside one 4 inch flexible conduit. Would this be permissible since I am below the 24 inch direct burial requirement. The phone line will be tied into the existing phone circuit in my home.

Re: seperation of type USE cable from phone

I feel this would be a violation of 800.52(A)(1)(c) of the NEC 2002.

Communications conductors shall not be placed in any raceway, compartment, outlet box, junction box, or similar fitting with conductors of electric light, power, etc..

Whether you're below the 24-inch depth is not relevant. Phone and power lines are not allowed inside the same conduit regardless of depth.

Jeff this is a DIY'er post and not allowed on the forum. What you are proposing is dangerous. Get a qualified electrican to assist. Lacking that make sure you get a permit and inspection. I am closing this post.

Besides all that, USE is not permitted to be used inside any building, it must be terminated outside.
