SER cable in commercial building

The same restrictions as for NM apply. From the 2011 Handbook:

Type SE cable is permitted as an interior branch circuit or feeder wiring method and where used in this manner, the installation is to comply with the requirements in Part II of Article 334 (Type NM cable) except for the ampacity rules in 334.80. The different configurations of Type SE cable, including SEU and SER, are used for a variety of interior circuits including ranges, clothes dryers, heating, and air-conditioning equipment and as feeders to supply panelboards that are not the service equipment.

So if NM isn't allowed to be run above the ceiling neither can SER.
