series rating compatability between different manufacturers

Is There Any Section In The Code That Prohibits The Use Of Different Manufacturers For Breakers And Panelboards In The Same Service? The Only Thing I Can Think Of Would Be Ul And Series Rating Compatability Between Different Brands Since None Of The Equipment Would Have Been Tested Together.

110.3 (Use of Equipment) States that equipment needs to be listed for use. So a breaker made by GE is not listed for use in a Siemens Panel unless it is labeled so. But I have seen TB breakers that were listed for multiple manufactured panels.

Greg, I beleive the point you made concerning series-rating would the most likely problem one would encounter. Few "additions" in our area maintain like manufacturer on gear.

I Appreciate Everyones Responses. To Clarify My Problem, I Have An Existing Building With A Cutler Hammer Service Board And Sub Panels That Is Getting Remodeled. The New Tenant Has A Strict National Account Vendor That Will Only Allow Me To Use Square-d Products. The Engineer Plans On Keeping The Service And Three Sub Panels, And I'm Adding More Sub Panels. I Don't Have Any Intentions Of Putting One Manufacturers Breakers Into Another Manufacturers Panels, but I Do Want To Know If I Can Have A Cutler Hammer Board Feeding A Square-d Sub Panel If I Had Any Chance Of Getting The Two Manufacturers To Provide A Letter Approving The Two To Be Series Rated Together? If Anyone Could Help With This One I'd Appreciate It.

The question is a bit fuzzy. Are you asking about adding, say, a Cutler-Hammer panel on a system with a Square D service section? Or is the question whether a Cutler-Hammer breaker can be installed in a Square D service? Or is the question whether you can use a Square D breaker in a Siemens panel?

For the first, if you install a fully rated system there is no problem with mix and match. It's only series rated systems where there would be a problem.

For the second, see JJoyce's post.

For the third, see Bryan's post.

Greg if you are sub feeding lets say from a Cutler to a SQD... Cutler switch/breaker in the Cutler gear is protecting the feeders and maintain all SQD equipment in the SQD equipment that is just fine. Hope that made sense.
It is ok to have multiple manuf.brands in the "same building"

It is very unlikely, since it would require cost for testing. For ease of installation, and flexibility, stay away from series rating. Besides, at the panelboard level you have such low fault currents, I hardly think the effort would be beneficial to your cause.
