Hi, quick question.......do need a disconnect between meter socket and breaker panel if they are next to each other or will a main disconnect in the panel be code. Thanks NYC

If you are in NYC all bets are off. They may have local rule that requires it.
The NEC does not when they are side by side and the panel has a main in it. Main lug panel? Yes, you would need it.

Are you asking if you need an overcurrent device or are you asking if you need a disconnect? (I can read what you wrote but I'm asking if you wrote what you meant to wrote) (and please excuse the fact that the enter key won't work)).
