Service and feeders .

Can copper be installed for the service then aluminum for feeders? Or does it have to be either or .

You can have a service or feeder fed with cooper and aluminum. For example, the two hot conductors can be copper and the neutral can be aluminum-- I have never seen it done but there is no code against it, afaik

Thanks for the input do you know what code reference thats is?
There isn't going to be a code reference for that. The code tells you what you have to do and what you can't do. It does occasionally tell you what you can do for clarification, but that is not its purpose. A question I would like to ask you to challenge yourself with is, what code references are leading you to ask that question? Note what Dennis said "no code against it"

Keep in mind you must also meet Power Co. rules as far as service
(we have one POCO that will not connect to AL)
