Hi,

I have a switchgear cabinet with three sections. The middle has the main breaker. The one to the right has the distribution. Out of the load side of the main breaker we go to an ATS. Back out of the ATS to feed the distribution bussing. There is a main bonding jumper in the main breaker section.

Another electrician was wanting to run a jumper from the neutral bar in the main breaker section to the distribution section. I told him that I do not think that should be since we are running through the generator ATS. And that we need to keep the grounds separate from the neutrals in the distribution section.

Am I correct here even though they are in the "same" enclosure? Does it matter they are in the same enclosure? Code references?

Thanks for your help!

Does the ATS switch the neutral?

No it does not, the way I wired it. Should I have it switch the neutral? It does have provision for that.

The neutral is not switched in 95% of ATS applications. Switching the neutral is typically only done with ground fault protection. Neutral should run from service to ATS with hot conductors (not landed) and then over to distribution.

Yep, okay. That is the way I have it. The neutral bars in the switchgear from the main breaker section to the distribution section are not bonded. Thanks for the help.
