Service Conductor Running Through Enclosed Garage.

So in my area we have a lot of SER that is running out of the meter unprotected in attached enclosed garages. These garage use to be open carports that they have enclosed over the years. I talked to my inspector that since these are now attached and enclosed and part of the building now, there should either be a disconnect outside or right behind the Meter. He says that it was legal when it was an open carport so not a problem.

I don't like it cause its unfused conductor with homeowners walking on top of it in the "New" attic space. Reason I ask is because I ran across it again on a house that is up for sell. When I get called for a quote for fixing what's in the Home Inspection; I tend to try and have eagle eyes, and point out other issue that are usually more dangerous than the Home inspector found.

If I call this out and point out the violation am I wrong. The Split buss panel is about 30' away from the meter. I figure I can try and get more work out of it and also make it a lot safer. To me this is dangerous, This image if they put a new roof on and a nail goes into it will wake some people up lol.

I think your best bet is to put on your blinders and just fix what they want to pay for.

If you add in a CB or fused disconnect by the meter won't you have to change out the SER cable and move the GEC connectioon to the new disconnect?

Yes that would be expensive fix. Figured I would point it out and if its actually a problem. then they can decide on it. Though I understand were your coming from, I would lean that way if the owner was a little old lady with no money. Home market here is crazy 17 days from list to close, people are getting to much for there houses so I figure the new homeowner should have a decent house when they buy it, or at least now of a possible issue.
I come across a lot of thing that new homeowners were not aware off that should of been at least talked about, Shifty real estate agents keep it under the radar.
