Service Disconnect

I need some suggestion for a service disconnect between meter and main breaker panel inside. The panel is an 100 Amp Homeline Square D.

What would you suggest as an 100 Amp service disconnect outside? General fused safety switch or main breaker panel?

Thank you

IMO the first choice is a main breaker panel if it's located nearest the entry of the SEC's into the structure. Secondly would be the use of an external main breaker adjacent to the meter. I would avoid fuses for a 100 amp dwelling service.

Or if you want to keep it clean just install a meter socket with main disconnect. It's not a huge jump in price to go from 100A to 200A. Remember that if you install the disconnect you will have to remove the MBJ from the panel inside and bring your GEC to the disconnect outside where your neutral will be bonded.

The house already has a 60 amp fuse type box with lever. It is being upgraded to 100 amp. The new homeline 100 amp main breaker already in place and they want to keep some sort of disconnect outside.

Why you don't recommend the lever/fuse type?

I can t really move the meter. It is separate and part of a 3 meter box serving different unit.
