Service Drip Loop Uv Damage

In the oil patch we have used teck cable up the pole as service mast.
Over time the sun UV attacks the insulation on the drip loops.Red first then Blue. then black crumble away respectively.

-is there a special teck that should be used?
-should a person wrap the 6' drip loop conductors in tape? heat shrink?
maybe this will protect them.

**as a result, recently I had a service mast conductor short to ground, it didn't trip anything on the over head power line, but the metal enclosure was live HOT*** Some one could have received a shock and died.....

You guys up there don't bond the grounded conductor at the service? Even if you had the fuse link at the tranny likely wouldn't have dropped out but the fireworks would have been cool.

If the conductors are not sunlight resistant, 310.8(D)(2) would permit you to cover them with tape or other insulating material that is listed as sunlight resistant.
