HEy guys, I'm installing an additional service for a 3 story comm/resi building. It's 140 ft from the point of contact(service mast) to the meter pan. I'm planning on running emt, does anyone see any problems with or have any suggestions. Also, I'm planning on using a siemens meter socket/main disconnect combo on the outside of the building. The cost of the square d panel looks like it is 3 times the cost of a g.e. panel, does anyone have any experience with the g.e. panels. I've never had problems with them. This is my first job as a contractor, bidding and estimating so any advice would be appreciated.

As a new contractor (congrats!), learn to ask questions first so you don't have to work twice to correct errors. Around here, even exposed service cable is common where not subject to damage.

Our POCO has (online and print) a Blue Book that details their requirements for services. I would start by looking online or contacting your POCO and ask how to obtain their requirements.

Then I would contact your local electrical inspection department and see if you can speak directly with the inspector who covers your neighborhood (if they assign them that way). Introduce yourself and ask him/her if you can ask these questions.

Remember, you and the inspection department have a common goal: a safe and efficient electrical installation. Even when a disagreement pops up, always be polite and cordial, but firm.
