we are about to pull parralell 350 kcmil entrance cable for our service, i have a grounding sysem electrode for the transformer and a grounding system for the service with a ufer ground, water ground and a earth ground, no steel bond since the building is wood. Do i have to pull a grounding wire in with the service conductors from the transformer to the service, or can i just use and consider the grounding system i have the proper ground?

Re: service entrance cable grounding

If I assume that the transformer is a utility transformer, you don't need to pull a ground wire in the service. If the transformer is a stepdown transformer owned by the landlord, a 480 to 120/240 or 120/208 volt for example, you must be sure that he didn't ground it first himself. A feed from the landlords transformer probably wouldn't be called a service, most likely a feeder.

I'm not sure why you are grounding the transformer if it belongs to a utility. Perhaps you could describe things a little bit more.

Re: service entrance cable grounding

I have seen it done both ways.Just make sure you bond properly.

Re: service entrance cable grounding

thanks for the response, that is what i thought, i was refering to the meter ground at the utility transformer, and you are correct assuming that it was so and it is not a step down.

Re: service entrance cable grounding

Do they want you to pull a bonding jumper to poco ct cabinet to bond for saftey reasons?

Re: service entrance cable grounding

Check with the serving electric utility, I assure you that they have rules concerning grounding in their meter cabinet. :D
