I used single rated u.s.e.-2 cable in 2.5" scedule 40 pvc to go from outside disconnect thru wall to breaker box. Run is approximately 80 feet long. I was tould by an inspector for local power utility that this was not permitted by NEC because it has no fire rated covering. He says that even in pvc conduit it makes no differnce. Also as per State Fire Marshll we are still under 1999 NEC as latest addition of NEC has not been adopted yet here in West Virginia. I would like some clarification on this mater. THANKS!

Re: Service entrance cable

The inspector is absolutely correct, as they usually are. USE cable is not permitted by its listing to be used inside a building. If the wire has a dual listing such as USE/XHHW, it may be used for inside wiring since it is now a recognized wire as reflected in table 310.13.

The -2 indicates it is suitable for 90 degrees C in a wet location.
