I am assuming that you want to not use the grounding wire and the neutral is correctly sized.

Then yes. It is a waste and will look silly IMO, but seems legal.

Please do not type in all caps, it is considered yelling.

I recommend that you simply cap off the unused wire rather than cutting it off. The reason being that in the future somebody may want to use the extra wire for a reason.:thumbsup:

I read this as an overhead assembly (3 insulated, one ACSR as messenger) in which he wants to remove one of the insulated for single phase application and less weight. I know he said "cable" but there have been many posts in a few threads where "triplex" and "quadplex" were considered "cable". OP, can you clarify?

Does it really mater which one he has. He can use a raceway, pull an extra conductor and not use it if he wants.
