Can I bring the SEC into a small through first and then into the panel? In other words nipple from the back of the meter socket to the through then to the panel. The through is going to be used as a short raceway instead of an LB and LL. If this is a violation please give code article. Thanks

Re: service entrance conductor installation

gserve,
Why would you want to use a trough?
Article 230-7 (1999) No other conductors other than service conductors shall not be installed in the same raceway or service cable.

Re: service entrance conductor installation

The panel and meter socket were installed by a homeowner and the panel needs to be moved down and to the left I thought it would be easier than trying to use LB and LL(200A,2ott con)There is not going to be anymore conductors installed in the through. P.S .The panel is already mounted with a nipple coming through the back from the meter socket and I don't want to drill another hole in the outside wall.

gserve if I understand your installation correctly, the through will be on the inside of the building with 1 panel. If you chose this config., then watch your length of SEC into the building. See 230.70(A1). Most jurisdictions have a ft rule on this so you may want to check with your AJH first with your configuration and see if they approve.

I personally would drop the through and go with the LB/LL route on the outside and come into the back of the panel.
