Hello, this is my first time posting. According to 310.15(B)(16) 600kcmil is good for carrying 420 Amps for (75 degrees) however table 310.15(B)(7) says that you can use 400kcmil for 400 amps service. We are doing a service drop in a 400amp hot gutter to two 200 amp meters. I have been told to always derate as much as you can, just to be safe as possible but i was wondering if we can go with table 310.15(B)(7) for this service drop. Thank you for youre help.

Dennis,
Unless I am mistaken or there was a change in the '14 Code, you can only use that Table for the individual units. if he is supplying tow meters (two units) he would have to use 310.15(B)(16). That said, the conductor needed could be sized on the calculated load of the the units and would not necessarily need to be sized at the 400 sum of the two disconnects.
