I have a client who presently performs a remote reset of the service entrance circuit breaker when it trips. This breaker feeds a remote enclosure which houses some communication equipment. I have informed the client that there is a problem with the electrical system if the serve entrance breaker requires resetting on a regular basis.
I found some sections in the code which allows for remote operation of these breakers but nothing about remote resetting. This goes against good engineering judgment (in my opinon) however, I will probably have to point to a code issue to get them to acknowledge they have a problem with the system.
They are proposing more of these shelters with the same reset device installed on the service main.
Can you shed any light on this unorthodox use of remote control?
