Service entrance

I have install on plans which have SE cables from utility meter to main service fused disconnect outside without conduit. The main service fused disconnect and meter are attached to wall outside.

When asked to provide conduit for SE rated cable between utility meter and main service disconnect the designer took of the SE rated cable and said it would be just be regular cable in conduit. Does the service entrance cable have to be SE cable or it can be any regular cable inside conduit?

Correct so what plans now show is Rigid Metal Conduit but cable inside it is not SE cable it’s other non SE cable. Would that still be acceptable?

Plans just says individual conductors THHN, THHW, THW-2.

Those individual conductors (they're not a cable) in a RMC raceway would be code compliant.

SE cable ( except for extreme/select circumstances) does not have to be in conduit FYI.

U can't use THHN outdoors. All outdoor conductors must have a w............THWN, THW, XHHW etc.

These days, they're just about all dual rated, like THHN/THWN-2.

I agree that they are usually dual rate but I have run into plenty of electricians who think you can use THHN underground and don't understand the "W" they think wire is wire
