Can someone point out the code section that prevents the meter base, mast, disconnect enclosure, etc... from obstructing a window?
In bidding a service upgrade job, the customer politely insisted that the new meter be attached at a 90 degree inside corner of his house. There is a window within a few inches of that corner. Imagine looking out someone's window and seeing the side of a meter and you will have an idea of what he wanted.
* The point where the conductors would emerge from the conduit is greater than 3 feet from the window.
* The window is not a bedroom window where emergency egrees codes might apply.

Thanks,

Mike

You might want to try checking the local utilty provider's regulations for any restrictions. Sometimes they prohibit any meter socket without a side clearance of a specified distance from any wall or obstruction. As far as the nec , I cannot recall ever seeing any reference to any restrictions to mounting the meter socket next to a window, just the service drop conductors where they are within 36" from a window opening.

You are correct, we have restrictions on the placement of our cash register but the Code does not. It is a totally enclosed piece of equipment and is safe to be used almost anywhere but each electric utility has their own rules concerning how you receive service. :D

Thanks guys,

I guess that explains why I couldn't find anything in the NEC that forbids this. We'll check with our PoCo regarding their rules.
