Service Feeders Entering Building

I am doing a 7 story timeshare. The storage rooms are located on each floor and the service conduits riser up in the storage rooms thru to the 3rd and 5th floors, 1600 amps each. I am curious as to the code relating to the distance conduits can run without a means of disconnect. each has a main breaker. Shunt trips will be located at 1st floor where conduits enter building.

I must be confused. You're asking "without a means of disconnect" yet,,,,you say each 1600 amp run has a shunted main. Can you please clarify?

Here's a good feeder graphic:

Distance generally has nothing to do with it. A service conductor can go any distance necessary without a disco but once it enters the building then you must have the disco as close to the point of entrance as possible-- Trevor shows this in the diagram above.

It sounds as if the service entrance conductors will be run in the building up to the 3rd and 5th floors with a shunt trip switch at the point where they enter the building. The shunt trip setup is unacceptable as the service disconnect required at the nearest the point of entry of the service conductors into the building.

Well, If you are confused by my post let me post what the OP wrote.

Which helps how? :)

You do not see a question about distance?

Is the 3rd floor nearest the point of entrance?

I think we need to clear up if there is a proper service disconnect ahead of the trip upstairs.

The way I read it:
1st Floor-shunt trip switches
3rd floor -1600 amp Switchboard w/ Main
5th Floor-1600 amp Switchboard w/ Main

1st floor Shunt trip switches open Main CB's on service switchboards.

Sorry I refuse to get into this. IMO, unnecessary discussion.
