Hello again.... I was doing a sevice today on a house that was a capecod style house that means that the roof is pitched from front to back. The sevice latteral was on the side of the house which means that directly above my meter socket theres a 18" soffit that the roof is conected to, so the side wall where your meter is the soffit bumps out 18 " from that wall . My question is whats the norm. would you strap up to the soffit and then bump your wire to connect to the fashia,or would you just bring it to the soffit. any help would be great ......

ps: i was told that the service head had to be straight up and down, so when your straping to the fashia you cant have your head on like a 45 with the roof pitch ....is that true ...I know its not a nec code but just wondering if it was in another book

I seldom feel especially compelled to get my weatherhead actually on the soffit's fascia board. If I can take it up the wall enough to get the clearances I need, then I don't worry about it. I assume, by the way, that you're talking about using SE cable and not pipe, right?

I believe that the SE style weatherhead is only rain tight when installed in a vertical position so they can't go on an angle. But if the weatherhead is tucked in the corner between the side wall of the house and the inside edge of the 18" overhang then IMO it could be mounted with the angle of the roof line. There is no possible way that water could ever get to it.
