Re: Service lateral connection
That is an interesting topic.
A few years ago our POCO changed the way we terminate the connection from the service drop to the service entrance conductors.
We used to make a temporary connection and the POCO would come and reterminate with their method. Some guys were making temp connections with Romex connectors - as they were easy and cheap, some twisted the connection and taped it. The problem was the POCO was so busy that the connection sometimes was there for years before the POCO came to change to permanent connections. As a result, there were many problems and now we are required to use either of two methods or they will not provide a CO for the work.
We are provided with a 'Richardson' connector or we use a crimp connector. I like the crimp connector as most of the work is completed on the ground and not up on a ladder. The Richardsons require a mechanical connection which is more work in my opinion.
